What is the SJE Leadership Academy?
St. John’s Leadership Academy extends the school's commitment toward excellence by offering a program that focuses on mental health, accountability, responsibility, team building and other leadership qualities needed throughout a student’s educational career and beyond. Over the course of each six week program, SJE’s Leadership Academy creates an environment that embraces risk taking and growth where participating students will document their journeys as leaders, whether as athlete, artist, engineer or innovator.
The research based leadership curriculum we utilize was created by MindsetMatters and is guided by the following core principles:
- Everyone is a leader, regardless of age, gender, or ethnicity.
- Leaders are developed through education and experience.
- Building character is a personal choice.
- Leaders use a common and shared language.
- Leadership takes practice.
- Leaders learn and grow through failure.
- Feeling safe isn’t enough. Being safe takes practice, preparation, and observation skills.

In addition to the leadership curriculum, student participants will demonstrate their learned skills through team participation and group discussion with both coaches and motivational guest speakers

NEW - ESports Leadership Academy
We are also pleased to announce an exciting, new partnership to further enhance our Leadership Academy program. This year we are teaming up with Esports Players Club, a state of the art, newly established, competitive Esports facility that offers classes in coding, game design, content creation, graphic design, video editing, and streaming. Not only do they plan to incorporate our Mindset Matters curriculum (above), but their goal is for students to work together as a team and learn the skills required for game development with skills transferable to any major tech industry.
The SJE Leadership Academy Esports program will follow the same schedule as the school based program with Winter A, Winter B, Spring and Summer sessions, each one lasting six weeks. Sessions will be held on Saturdays at the Esports Players Club (1802 West Kennedy Drive) and are open to: Grades 4-8 from 10:00am - 12:00pm
Registration for Summer ESports ($250/session) will also open on Thursday, April 6th through Campium and will be found under Forms: Leadership Academy once your child’s name has been selected.
Parents must provide all transportation to and from the location and are welcome to stay for the duration. A St. John’s faculty member will be present at all times during the duration of the classes but students are welcome to remain at the facility for as long as they want once each Saturday session ends - the extra hours are included in the session cost.
