The mission of St. John’s Episcopal Day School is to attract, admit, and retain students whose academic potential can best be served by the challenging academic offering. The application process begins in response to a request for information, upon which the admissions packet is sent to the prospective family. The information card should be returned to the Admissions Director; and an inquiry date is established in the database file. In the fall prior to the year the child would be entering St. John’s, an Admissions Open House is conducted, and is designed to provide the prospective families with a good knowledge of St. John’s school community, the curriculum offered throughout your child’s St. John’s academic experience, and the varied activities of our students.
An overview of our admissions time line is as follows:
- Form I Openings: Assessment schedules for Form I (Pre-K 4) will begin in early December for all children who will be turning 4 years old between September and December of this year. Children turning 4 years old between January and August will be assessed during the month of January. The assessment fee is $100, and should be paid at the time of assessment.
- Reenrollment: Our current student population will receive contracts in early February.
- Available Openings Form II-X: Testing schedules for (K-8) applicants on the wait list will be conducted in mid-February, based upon the identified openings at that time.
- Contract Offer and Execution: Contracts for all new prospective students (Form I-X) will be offered between March & April.
St. John’s provides three priority categories for parishioners, siblings and Legacy families. Requirements for this affiliation are:
- Parish affiliation: A minimum of six months’ active church membership with regular attendance and meaningful participation in Annual Stewardship, prior to the request for a wait-list inquiry card. Criteria will be verified with the Church office.
- Sibling affiliation: Siblings of currently enrolled students in good academic, citizenship and financial standing with the school.
- Legacy applicants: Children or grandchildren of a St. John’s graduate.
The results of the assessment, the results of a group shadowing experience (Form I only), and any special status factors (parishioner, sibling or legacy status) are used to establish the sequence in which we offer contracts for the fall school year. Since the wait lists are often extensive, early application is encouraged, particularly for Forms I and II. St. John’s has a rolling admissions policy in which students are admitted throughout the year as long as they perform in their assessments at peer level and an opening exists. The admissions policy is non-discriminatory with regard to race, sex, color, religion, national or ethnic origin.
