Financial Aid

Financial assistance at St. John's Episcopal Parish Day School is the monetary assistance provided to reduce educational costs to those families who demonstrate financial need. It comes in the form of an outright grant against tuition. Need is generally defined as the difference between the School's educational expenses and a family's ablity to pay those expenses. Since eligibility is based on many factors, parents who feel unable to pay the full tuition should always investigate the possiblity of receiving financial assistance. St. John's believes that the family has primary responsibility for financing their child's education to the extent they can. As such, a limited amount of financial assistance is available to help families who would otherwise find enrollment impossible.

School and Student Service for Financial Aid (SSS) is a service of the National Association of Independent Schools, and it is used by St. John's to help assess a family's ability to pay school costs. The SSS process promotes objectivity and consistency in practices and procedure within our school and among all SSS user schools. The SSS process involves a few basic steps:

  • Parents obtain a Parents' Financial Statement (PFS) from the school office and complete it.
  • They send the fully completed PFS to SSS for processing prior to February 1st. (After February 1st, it can only be done online at www.sss.nais.org).
  • SSS analyzes the PFD information to estimate the family's ability to pay and reports its findings to the School.
  • Parents submit their IRS 1040 tax return for the immediately preceding calendar year to the Susiness Manager or Head Master at the School on or before April 1st.  All information submitted is strictly confidential.
  • The School's Financial Aid Committee uses the SSS results, the complete IRS 1040 tax return, copies of all W-2 and 1099 forms, and other information (including the student's work ethic, academic ability, and demonstrated appropriate behavior) as part of its final financial assistance award decision.

Students who meet the above conditions will be ranked according to the following priorities:

  • Students with the longest tenure at the School.
  • Students in the higher Forms. For example: in the case of Form X and Form VI students who equally fulfill the first critera in the this paragraph, preference will be given to the Form X student.
A student who is receiving financial assistance must work up to his or her highest level of academic ability and demonstate appropriate behavior as determined by the School. After three consecutive failures to meet these standards, termination of financial assistance will be automatic. In addition, failure to meet the full monthly portion of the family's financial obligation to the School will result in the termination of financial assistance, unless fully satisfactory arrangements are made and documented.
