Highlights & Accomplshments 2010-2011

PRIMARY DIVISION (109 students):

  • Every student receives instruction in computers, art, music, divinity, Spanish, science, library, and physical education.
  • Students are Bucket Fillers…of kindness, love, and good deeds. 
  • Students participated in Dads’ Club Day of Service.
    • Form I: Assembled pencil boxes for Hillsborough County Education Foundation.
    • Form II: Assembled snack/care bags for families staying at the Ronald McDonald House.
  • Theme based daily Summer Eaglet Camp for four and five year olds started in the summer of 2011. 

  
LOWER DIVISION (224 students):
  • Form V (3rd grade) tied for 7th in the nation (out of 521 schools) in the first Word Master’s Challenge competition of the school year, and placed 4th in the nation(out of 521 schools) in the second competition.
  • Form VI (4th grade) placed 2nd in the nation (out of 694 schools) in the first WordMaster’s Challenge competition of the school year, and placed 8th in the nation (out of 694 schools) in the second competition.    
  • 2010 – 2011 Form VI (grade 4) ERB Achievement Test Results:
a.       Verbal Reasoning -                       85%ile 
b.      Reading Comprehension -           83%ile 
c.       Writing Mechanics -                      89%ile 
d.      Writing Concepts & Skills -           84%ile

  • Science club, Club Invention, held after school during the school year. 
  • Students participated in the Dads’ Club Day of Service.
    • Forms III – VI collected hard candy and wipes and wrote letters to members of our Armed Forces overseas. 
  
MIDDLE DIVISION (240 students):
  • 2010 – 2011 Form X (grade 8) ERB Achievement Test Results:
    1. Verbal Reasoning -                   93%ile
    2. Reading Comprehension -      83%ile
    3. Writing Mechanics -                  92%ile
    4. Writing Concepts & Skills -      88%ile
    5. Quantitative Reasoning -         94%ile
  • 100% of the 59 graduating 8th graders were accepted into the high school of their first choice with the following acceptances:
    • 19 at Jesuit
    • 11 into a local IB program
    • 8 at Berkeley
    • 3 at Tampa Prep
    • 3 at Academy of the Holy Names
    • 2 at Tampa Catholic
    • And 30 will attend Plant High School
  • Thirty out of the 59 Form IX (7th grade) students qualified to take the SAT for the Duke TIP Program in the 2010 – 2011 school year. 
    • Fourteen students received state recognition for their SAT scores.
    • One student received national recognition for their SAT scores.
  • 2010 – 2011 Latin Team took 1st in the Regional Latin Forum for the 7th year in a row.
  • 2010 – 2011 Latin Team took 1st in the State Latin Forum (have been 1st, 2nd, or 3rd for 7 years in a row). 
  • Three Form X students achieved perfect scores on the National Latin Exam.
  • Seven Form IX students achieved perfect scores on the National Latin Exam.  (Only 328 students out of over 18,100 achieved perfect scores) 
  • Form IX (7th grade) placed 1st in the nation (out of 291 schools) in a Word Master’s Challenge competition during the school year.
  • Form VIII (6th grade) placed 1st in the nation (out of 401 schools) in a WordMaster’s Challenge competition during the school year.
  • Book Award from Johns Hopkins University was awarded to an outstanding science/mathematics Form X student at graduation.
  • 93% of all middle school students participate in one or more sports’ team each year and the St. John’s athletic teams have won 28 league championships in the last eight years.   
  • Students participated in the Dads’ Club Day of Service,
    • Form VII – cleaned up the Cotanchobee Park.
    • Form VIII – cleaned up the USF Park.
    • Forms IX & X – worked at and cleaned the Interbay YMCA on Himes. 

  
ALL SCHOOL (573 students):
  • For the sixth summer, St. John’s conducted a summer science camp, Camp Invention, and had the largest Camp Invention enrollment in the State of Florida.     
  • Of the 20 students inducted into the Plant High School honor Society, Order of the Black and Gold, four were St. John’s graduates.   
  • During Lent, the students raised $1500 for a medical center that will serve the students of our sister school in Uganda.
